Coronavirus Protection – Should you wear a mask?

Coronavirus Protection – Nobody wants to contract coronavirus. Newspaper and media reports have highlighted the devastating effects that the virus has had throughout the world.

Economies have been brought to their knees and most of the world has gone into lockdown to stop the spread, but people are still dying, albeit in smaller numbers as the weeks go by.

As the UK starts to make noises about lifting the lockdown restrictions, the biggest problem we all face is in limiting the spread of COVID-19. Since the earliest days of the pandemic, the government has been urging us to take steps to prevent catching, or transmitting, this new coronavirus.

Coronavirus Protection & Prevention

Washing hands thoroughly for at least two minutes at a time, using soap and hot water, is still held to be one of the principal methods of preventing the spread and for coronavirus protection.

But we’re also aware of the need to trap coughs and sneezes in a tissue, which must be binned immediately. And, of course, staying indoors and limiting contact with other people has been another essential aspect in controlling the spread of the virus.

We are now hearing increasingly favourable reports about the efficacy of wearing face masks to halt the spread of COVID-19 and of course in medical settings full PPE Equipment. Of course, as we already know, there are no guarantees – after all COVID-19 appears to be highly contagious.

The latest studies seem to indicate that wearing a face mask is an important step in staying safe and in ensuring the safety of others.

So, what type of mask is most suitable? Clearly, your choices will depend upon your circumstances and needs. Someone working in a care home, for example, will have very different requirements than someone venturing out to the supermarket.

The good news is that there are plenty of face mask options to suit every type of wearer.

Coronavirus Protection – Surgical masks

Disposable surgical face masks like the type iir masks are often worn by doctors and dentists to protect patients and medical professionals. They offer very limited protection, as the tiny droplets that spread coronavirus can actually pass through these masks.

Respirator masks

Respirator masks offer the highest levels of coronavirus protection. These masks are designed to provide protection to the people wearing them. Built-in filtration systems ensure that the majority of impurities are filtered out before they can reach the wearer.

FFP stands for Filtering Face Protection and is the benchmark for high-quality and effective respirator masks. They are best equipped to provide effective coronavirus protection, which comes in the three separate levels.

FFP1 offers the lowest levels of protection, although it can prevent the inhalation of even tiny particles of coal and cement dust.

FFP2 masks offer superior protection in line with WHO guidelines for combating the spread of COVID-19. These are the most popular types of face masks currently being sought out for protection against the disease.

FFP3 masks offer the very highest levels of protection. This is the preferred option for NHS PPE, whose workers are subjected to extremely high potential viral loads.

The wearing of face masks may not yet be compulsory, but with so much at stake, it makes good sense to ensure that you have the most effective coronavirus protection equipment on hand whenever you might need it.
