PPE for Schools – Schools Need PPE Before Reopening

Unions warn, PPE for schools is needed before reopening

Unions have devised and sent a list of key measures that they deem paramount

to adhere to by the government in order for a safe return to school for pupils throughout England, which includes PPE for schools.

The need for extra money to arrange the deep cleaning of schools and the availability and provision of PPE for schools and local authority permitted to shut local schools if there are clusters of coronavirus infections in any area.

The Unions came forward with the request following an NHS England Chief warned of the unknown dangers of reopening schools prematurely. The Covid-19 transmission between children is an unknown entity as yet, there is limited information or understanding, which brings great risk.

PPE for schools is crucial

Serious caution should be placed around the schools return date and the availability of PPE for schools and deep cleaning strategies.

The Education Secretary Gavin Williamson received the statement from the Unions which demanded “clear scientific published evidence.” proving that there will be no adverse impact to trends of COVID-19 transmission derived from schools reopening and that this action was not premature or high risk.

Essential requirements for a safe return to school

The school workforce union deemed the following essential requirements prior to school return:

  • That the welfare & safety of both pupils and staff was a priority concern and all necessary measures would be met
  • No pupil increase whilst uncertainty is still an issue & a national test & trace scheme is implemented
  • An education COVID-19 task force available nationwide made up of Government, Unions and education authorities to work together on safety in reopening and guidance
  • Legislation & considerations for the varying needs of vulnerable families and pupils facing financial difficulties in these times.
  • The required resources and guidance for the resources required to retain the deep cleaning of the school to meet advised measures. Risk Assessments and PPE for schools
  • Authority to close local schools if the requirement due to clusters of new Covid-19 cases.

Phased School Reopening

Boris Johnson has announced a phased school reopening as early as June. Health Secretary Matt Hancock promised the government would only reopen schools and allow pupils to return when it was safe to do so.
