These Honeywell FFP3 masks meet the criteria of the World Health Organisation (WHO) and are recommended as PPE (personal protective equipment) for use in Avian Flu, SARS and Coronavirus – COVID-19.
CE Certified FFP3 Face Mask
The FFP3 face mask is part of the personal protective equipment – NHS PPE and are required when dealing with patients who potentially have or are confirmed to have COVID-19 that are undergoing an Aerosol generating Procedure (AGP) and when working with COVID-19 patients in high risk units such as intensive care unit, intensive treatment unit or high dependency unit (ICU/ ITU/HDU).
The Medicshield FFP3 face mask is fully certified for use as COVID-19 PPE (personal protective equipment and meet all regulatory standards for respiratory system protection.
The FFP3 mask is a half mask respirator that is designed to WHO (World Health Organisation) standard to cover the nose and mouth and has 2 elastic headbands to keep the face mask in place.
How to use the FFP3 Face Mask
The FFP3 Face Mask from Medicsheild is designed for ease of use and can be worn by anyone. To fit the mask, hold the face mask and place over your mouth and nose, placing both elasticated headbands over your head and adjust the mask position until secure and comfortable coverage is obtained.
The lower elasticated headband needs to be positioned at the nape of your neck with the higher elasticated headband positioned just above the crest or widest part of your head.
Once the mask is in place adjust so that it fits securely over the mouth and nose without being too tight.
What are the FFP3 face masks used for?
The FFP3 face mask is recommended personal protective equipment (PPE) to protect your respiratory system.
The FFP3 is for high risk protection that forms part of the NHS PPE and healthcare workers working directly with patients infected or possibly infected with COVID-19 whilst performing any aerosol generating procedures.
Aerosol generating procedures include: tracheostomy, intubation and bronchoscopy.
How do FFP3 Masks work?
The respiratory face masks of FFP3 grade are high level protection for high risk healthcare use for dealing directly with patients that may or do have COVID-19 / Coronavirus symptoms. They offer a higher level of protection than FFP1 and FFP2 face masks.
If you are not dealing with covid-19 / Coronavirus infected or potentially infected patients that are undergoing an Aerosol generating Procedure (AGP) or with COVID-19 patients in high risk units such as an intensive care unit, intensive treatment unit or high dependency unit (ICU/ ITU/HDU), then the FFP2 face masks may be suitable for your need.
The FFP3 masks are designed with a filtration system built into a valve above the section covering your nose and mouth. It protects against solid and liquid aerosols and is suitable to be used as an asbestos mask. They are also used when handling hazardous materials such as pharmaceutical chemicals by healthcare workers.
The current NHS PPE policy recommends the use of FFP3 grade masks for the control and prevention of virus and bacterial infections which are spread through sneezing and coughing, such as the coronavirus.
Are the masks reusable?
Although the masks are not marked as reusable this is due to them originally being manufactured for the construction & agricultural sectors.
The current guidance for the use of FFP3 masks for coronavirus is that you do not need to change the mask between patients even if they’re demonstrating symptoms of COVID-19.
